ftp port forwarding VI-3223u ADSL modem

Hoihoi,

Ik zie dat het al eerder gevraagd is en tele2 zegt dat ze geen portforwarding ondersteunen, maar misschien kan iemand toch wel helpen?

mijn oude davolink modem is stuk gegaan.

Groet, Kevin
kadzsol, you can make ftp work by pointing the DMZ at the host that is running FTP, but this is a ridiculous solution (open up every port on your computer, instead of securely opening one).

We get that Tele2 say the words "we don't support port forwarding" but no one is asking for support, just basic functionality. Without port forwarding it's not really an internet solution, or it is an incredibly bad internet solution.

It's like renting a house where all the doors are locked. You don't support giving keys to people so we all have to climb in and out of the windows instead of just unlocking the door.

I've wasted 3 hours on this today. Have you deliberately made this functionaility not work? I've gone through the documentation of the Comtrend modem, and nothing useful in there.

Could you confirm if you have deliberately disabled this functionality?
Putting my server into the DMZ is not something I consider as a solution. Even tele2 does not officially support port forwarding, it is still possible to forward other ports, even with this modem. For ftp you may use a different (non standard) port instead of 21?

So I do not think Tele2 did disable port forwarding on purpose, it is just a stupid "feature" in the firmware of this particular modem, that makes the update utility to claim port 21. With my old Tele2 modem ( a different type which has unfortunately died) I did not had this problem with ftp or other ports.

Maybe get some business internet connection? Than you even get more IP adresses.

Een andere oplossing is werken met een eigen router erbij. Die kan in DMZ zonder problemen. Dan zijn je poorten weer vrij.

Another solution is to work with your own router. That can be done in DMZ without problems. Then your gates are free again.
That’s not it kadzsol as I’m not even trying to use port 21. As I said above, using DMZ would be crazy, but my point is: DMZ works, but port forwarding 21 or port 800 (which is the port I’m trying to use) or ANY port does not work, so it does look like they have crippled the firmware so that the port forwarding feature does not work.

If anyone can show port forwarding working, please answer this: if I am wrong and this functionality is not crippled then hopefully we can find anyone that has successfully forwarded a port? And if so how they did it (by the way, I’m a networking professional and work on very complex networks which is why I think they’ve crippled this).

I don’t want a business account costing 100s of eur per month, I want really simplistic and basic functionality (ie being able to set up an FTP) because that’s teally basic functionality that every other ISP I’ve ever used can do.

I have succesfully forwarded a non-standard rdp port:

Server Name External Port Start External Port End Protocol Internal Port Start Internal Port End Server IP Address WAN Interface NAT Loopback Remove
rdp-mumbai 3390 3390 TCP 3390 3390 192.168.1.14 ppp0.1 Disable
ok, that's great to know kadzsol that you got RDP working like that(!), so I've gone back and tried a bunch more things and got it working for FTP. What's annoying is that Tele2 could just post up some examples to help people, instead of just that block-standard of "unfortunately we do not support X". Yes yes, we get that Tele2 don't support port forwarding, but Tele2 could at least post up some working examples, to help people to get started on this, would that really be so hard to do??

Here are my working settings running FileZilla FTP server on my server:

I set Passive Mode in FileZille FTP Server to use 55100 to 55110 and set FTP to listen on port 800.
I created a rule in the Windows 10 Firewall to allow the FileZilla Server executable through.
I put each port of Passive Mode in a separate line as it doesn't seem to support ranges from port start to port end (I might be wrong on that, I have to experiment more, but it didn't seem to work for me earlier). Anyway, this now all works now with this router (and DMZ turned off of course).
